Give Me Your Eyes

Brandon Heath Lyrics – Give Me Your Eyes

Looked down from a broken sky
Traced out by the city lights
My world from a mile high
Best seat in the house tonight
Touched down on the cold black tile
Hold on for the sudden stop
Breath in the familiar shock
Of confusion and chaos
All those people going somewhere
Why have I never cared?

Give me your eyes for just one second
Give me your eyes so I can see
Everything that I keep missing
Give me your love for humanity
Give me your arms for the broken hearted
The ones that are far beyond my reach
Give me your heart for the ones forgotten
Give me your eyes so I can see
yeah .. yeah .. yeah .. yeah

Step out on a busy street
See a girl and our eyes meet
Does her best to smile at me
To hide what's underneath
There’s a man just to her right
Black suit and a bright red tie
Too ashamed to tell his wife
He’s out of work
He’s buying time
All those people going somewhere
Why have I never cared?

Give me your eyes for just one second
Give me your eyes so I can see
Everything that I keep missing
Give me your love for humanity
Give me your arms for the broken hearted
The ones that are far beyond my reach
Give me your heart for the ones forgotten
Give me your eyes so I can see
yeah .. yeah .. yeah .. yeah
I’ve been there a million times
A couple of million eyes
Just moving past me by
I swear I never thought that I was wrong
Well I want a second glance
So give me a second chance
To see the way you see the people all alone

Give me your eyes for just one second
Give me your eyes so I can see
Everything that I keep missing
Give me your love for humanity
Give me your arms for the broken hearted
The ones that are far beyond my reach
Give me your heart for the ones forgotten
Give me your eyes so I can see
yeah .. yeah .. yeah .. yeah

This is a song I can listen to over and over. In fact, I am listening to it for the 5th time right now as I am writing this. It is so powerful! The message is simple: Why don't I see all the people around me for who they really are, not just how I perceive them to be? Why am I so quick to judge people, when I don't even know the whole story? Oh, if I could just have the eyes of God for even one second, what a difference it could make- what a difference I could make! As human beings, we are so quick to assume, to judge, or put people in categories. Why do we choose only to see the problems, when all around us are people who are hurting? We can get so caught up in judgement that we quickly forget Jesus...what he did, how he loved, and how he would treat the people we so easily dislike. We are truly no different than them. The difference is Jesus- He has rescued us, and we have found him. Without Jesus, who knows where we would be? I shudder to think about what my life would be like if I didn't know God. And if I could see people through his eyes, I know that my prideful view would be gone and I could love freely...this song is a simple prayer, and it is mine: that I would cast away my selfish nature and see the world through the eyes of God...only then can I begin to love like he does.

    Why? Answer the "why."

Why do we... when we know we shouldn't? If it's our choice, can't we CHOOSE to answer why correctly and honestly?

  2. I love this blog entry...I find myself asking this question all too often...Why? Why must I be such a failure in seeing God's creations for who they really are?

    Dayne,
I do wish that you could percieve that the question is not one to be literally answered. It is for the sake of rhetoric that it was asked. We know "why" we do it...because we are human...and we want to show dominion over others...we are naturally selfish and self-conscious. The question was begged due to the lack of understanding in this. We honestly have no idea why we cannot be as God is: We must strive to be, though. I hope you understand now the reason "why" was asked. Not literally, but spiritually.
